The idea
Some things are easier said in a tiny sign. A thank-you for the coworker who covered for you. A boundary for the day when the tabs are many and the patience is few. A love note that lives on a shelf instead of in a drawer.
That's the whole premise of TD Studios: small objects that say something, sitting where you'll actually see them.
Designing at three inches
A sign this small is mostly an editing problem. There's room for a handful of words, so each one has to earn its place, long enough to land the joke, short enough to still be readable from across a desk. Sam works the phrasing and the letter spacing together until both fit.
The A-frame shape came out of the same constraint. It stands on its own without a frame, an easel, or a bit of putty, which means it works on a desk, a shelf, a windowsill, or the edge of a monitor.
Made in Chicago
TD Studios is one person in Chicago. Sam designs each sign, packs every order, and answers the email. There's no warehouse and no fulfilment partner. When you order, Sam makes it and puts it in the mail, usually within 1–3 business days.
More than 3,000 orders have gone out so far, to desks and shelves across the country.
What's next
Signs are the beginning. Figurines and other little joys are on the way. The Little Sign Club hears about them first, and gets 15% off a first order for the trouble.
